My country's aerial work platform (AWP) manufacturing industry began in the early 1970s and has a history of over 30 years. Currently, the number of domestic manufacturers has grown from seven or eight to over one hundred. As of June 2012, 50 manufacturers were listed in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) announcements for AWP production; over 100 companies produced aerial work platforms; there were four joint ventures with foreign companies and four wholly foreign-owned enterprises.
The market demand for AWP products in my country has maintained rapid growth. Statistics show that in 2005, my country's production and sales volume of AWPs was 980 units, which reached 1,870 units in 2010, with a revenue of approximately 900 million yuan. In the next 10 years, sales of AWPs are expected to see significant growth, reaching an estimated 12,000 units annually by 2020, with a production value of 7 billion yuan. The industry's compound annual growth rate over the decade is projected to reach 20.43%.
With the rapid development of my country's national economy and the increasing emphasis placed on safe production, civilized construction, and power grid safety, the application of aerial work platforms in my country is expanding from traditional municipal and power industries to sectors such as petrochemicals, telecommunications, and disaster relief. In the future, with the development of aerial work platform rental services, the application of aerial work platforms in my country will expand and penetrate into sectors such as property decoration, hotels, high-speed railways, and sports venues. Meanwhile, the traditional application areas of aerial work platforms, such as power, street lighting, and landscaping, will also see further development.
