Method For Using Insulated Tools On Aerial Work Platforms

Workers use climbing equipment (foot straps, etc.) to climb the pole to a suitable position, fasten their safety belts, maintain a safe distance appropriate to the system voltage, and then use an insulated pole equipped with various tool attachments at its end to perform the work.

 

When using this method, firstly, insulated tools, gloves, and boots form longitudinal insulation between the live conductor and the ground, with the insulated tools providing primary insulation and the boots and gloves providing secondary insulation; secondly, insulated shields and clothing form lateral insulation between the live conductor and the worker, or between different phases of live conductors, to prevent phase-to-phase or phase-to-ground short circuits caused by excessive human movement. This method is advantageous because it is not limited by traffic or terrain conditions and can be used at pole positions inaccessible to high-altitude insulated boom lifts. However, its mobility, convenience, and aerial work range are inferior to those of insulated boom lifts. On-site supervisors should primarily monitor the safe distance between the worker and the live conductor, the minimum effective length of the insulated tools, and rigorously check the electrical insulation and mechanical strength of the tools used before operation.
