Withstanding the harsh Russian cold and high-salt corrosion | A bespoke anti-corrosion upgrade solution for aerial work vehicles

Aug 26, 2026

Customers familiar with operating conditions in Russia are well aware that the local winters are long and bitterly cold, with frequent heavy snowfalls; to ensure roads remain passable, large quantities of de-icing salt are spread across the road surfaces. The dual challenge of prolonged low temperatures and frost combined with high-salt corrosion is the 'number one killer' of aerial work platforms. Vehicles manufactured using standard processes are highly susceptible to issues such as chassis rust, paint peeling and frame corrosion under these conditions. Not only does this detract from the equipment's appearance, but the structural integrity of its core components also deteriorates year on year, leading to high maintenance costs and low residual value. This severely impacts construction efficiency and service life, and has been the key challenge highlighted by numerous Russian customers in recent times.

In response to the specific operating conditions of Russia's extreme cold and high salt levels, we have specifically iterated and upgraded our anti-corrosion system, tailoring a bespoke anti-corrosion and anti-rust solution to thoroughly overcome the challenge of outdoor corrosion. Regarding the bodywork paint process, we have moved away from the traditional single-step powder coating process and fully upgraded to a composite process comprising an epoxy primer and multiple layers of baked paint. Through multiple passes of precise spraying and high-temperature curing, the paint film adheres tightly layer by layer, resulting in an overall paint thickness of over 150 μm. The dense and resilient paint film effectively blocks the corrosive effects of salt, moisture and cold air, significantly enhancing the vehicle's resistance to wear, corrosion and low temperatures.

For the chassis areas most prone to salt accumulation and rust, we have reinforced them with specialised, thickened chassis armour, forming a high-strength, waterproof and salt-resistant protective coating that fully envelops the chassis piping, frame and underbody structure, effectively resisting the effects of de-icing brine, snow immersion and low-temperature oxidation. Enhanced by this dual-protection process, the vehicle achieves ten years of long-lasting rust and corrosion protection even under Russia's harsh outdoor operating conditions. This significantly reduces long-term maintenance costs and extends the service life of the equipment, providing Russian customers with aerial work platforms that are more durable, more trouble-free and better suited to local operating conditions!
